FISHING REPORT

This week’s fishing report, brought to you by the team at Tackle World Adelaide Metro.

METRO

With some steady weather conditions over the past few weeks, there has been no shortage of calm days to get out on the water and get some good fish.

Snapper catches have been quite steady for this time of the year, with plenty of fish around 3-8kg coming from offshore of North Haven.

Larger fish have come from the Port Stanvac area, as well as the odd fish still coming from offshore of Aldinga.

Smaller Snapper have been caught on the inshore grounds at West Beach, with a few coming from Somerton and the Broadway.

Recent catches of King George Whiting have come from the Silt Ground and Bastard pole area, as well as the Norma Wreck and AAMI Stadium grounds for those launching from North Haven.

West Beach and O’Sullivans Beach launchers found King George Whiting in close at West Beach, as well as the 12m depths out from Brighton, Somerton and Marino.

Squid are being found along most areas of the metro coastline, with land based anglers getting a few big ones. Brighton Jetty, Marino Rocks and Outer Harbor Breakwall have all provided good fishing at times for those putting in the effort.

For the boaties areas out from Outer Harbor, Semaphore, Brighton, Marino, Hallett Cove and Moana have all been consistent for Squid. Yo-Zuri Oita painted redhead Squid jig has been working extremely well for some regulars fishing the Marino area.

Salmon and Salmon Trout can be found at Marino Rocks, with fish holding quite close to shore.

Boats drifting or anchoring close to shore have managed to hold schools of large Salmon Trout to 1kg with small amounts of Pilchard berley. Best Lures have been the Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnow Deep Diver 90mm or Daiwa Double Clutch 60mm.

Other Salmon Trout reports have come from West Lakes and Port River, where huge schools of fish to 40cm have been found feeding on small Pilchards. St Kilda, Outer Harbor Breakwater, Southport and Sellicks Beach have all been fishing well for smaller fish.

Mullet catches have thinned a little on the local beaches, but are still in good numbers in the Port River.

Whilst we traditionally chase winter species such as King George Whiting and Salmon at this time of the year, some good catches of Garfish and Blue Swimmer Crabs have come from boats fishing out of West Beach and North Haven.

Tommies can be found at most inshore Metro spots, with a steady berley trail all that is needed to bring them to the boat and hold them. Brighton Jetty has had good catches late afternoon and at night time.

Snook are often seen as a summer species, but can be found along the Metro coastline all year round. Trolling small deep diving lures or casting small soft plastics are both very successful methods of catching these fish.

YORKE PENINSULA

King George Whiting have been biting well at Balgowen and Port Hughes, with Port Hughes typically firing up in the mid to late afternoon. Larger Whiting will come in the morning at Cape Elizabeth for those putting in the time.

Stansbury and Port Victoria are all producing some big King George Whiting, with bag limits achieved by many groups.

Snapper have been hard to locate along most of the Yorke Peninsula, with Tapley Shoal and Ardrossan being an exception. Tapley Shoal has had Rugger Snapper to 60cm, while a few larger fish came from offshore of Ardrossan.

Tommies are being found at most Jetties along the Peninsula for those fishing late afternoon, and early evening. Berley floats with pellet berley is the key to getting a bucketful of Tommies from the jetty.

There have been some good catches of Flathead over the past few weeks, with Gleesons Landing and Cape Elizabeth producing medium to large Flathead on soft plastics and Pilchard baits.

Salmon have been coming from Browns Beach and Berry Bay, with smaller fish coming from Hillocks Drive and Pondalowie Bay.

Mullet are being found all along the lower Yorke Peninsula coast, with Troubridge Point and Marion Bay the pick of the spots.

EYRE PENINSULA

Squid have been caught in good numbers at Whyalla, with some really nice sized ones coming from Mount Young area.

Garfish have been found in Port Lincoln, Coffin Bay and at Point Lowly.

Salmon have come from Convention Beach and Locks Well, with plenty of smaller Salmon Trout coming from the jetties in Port Lincoln.

King George Whiting have been coming from Streaky Bay and Smoky Bay on the West Coast, with plenty of other catches coming from Farm Beach and Arno Bay.

Snapper have been quiet over the past few weeks along most of the Eyre Peninsula, with only a few fish coming from Whyalla and Cowell.

Yellowfin Whiting have been in good numbers at Whyalla, with some nice fish coming from the foreshore at the caravan park.

FLEURIEU PENINSULA

Waitpinga Beach has Salmon to around 2kg and taking lures when they swell is down. Parsons Beach has smaller Salmon Trout with the odd salmon also caught. One angler fishing at Morgans Beach caught plenty of small Salmon during the past week. Other areas worth trying would be Blow Hole Beach at Deep Creek and at Goolwa Beach.

Mullet are in good numbers along most of the Fleurieu coastline, with some big fish still coming from Encounter Bay, Parsons Beach and Middleton.

King George Whiting have been coming from inshore grounds at Wirrina, as well as some big fish near Victor Harbor.

Squid catches have been coming from Rapid Bay and the rocks at Wirrina, with some larger Squid coming from Cape Jervis jetty and The Bluff at times.

Some good catches of Snapper have been coming from Tunkalila and Cape Jervis, with the odd report of small Southern Bluefin Tuna being found in the same areas.

SOUTH EAST

Some good catches have come from offshore of Port MacDonnell, with plenty of Sharks and Flathead coming from the 60mt line.

Southern Bluefin Tuna are abundant between the 40-70m lines, with some big schools of fish to 25kg easily located.

Bigger Tuna have come from over the border, with steady catches of fish in excess of 100kg coming in the past few weeks.

Some great reports of Tuna being caught on Bonze lures in conjunction with the new Bonze Spreader Bars have been coming through, with a 126kg fish landed last weekend on a Spreader bar rigged with a Bonze Skirt.

RIVERLAND - FRESHWATER

Some solid Callop have been coming from the cliffs near Swan Reach, with some good numbers also being caught on spinnerbaits around the snags.

Plenty of good Callop have also come from Renmark, Lyrop, Ramko and Bowhill.

Murray Cod catches have come from areas above Lock 1 and between Lock 2-3. Trolling very large deep divers or casting large spinnerbaits has been the most successful methods.

Yabbies have slowed a little in most areas, but still worth putting the nets in while fishing for other species.

Carp will still be active as the water cools and can be caught just about anywhere along the River.
